April in Auroville is when the township lesson narrows. Daytime touches 28-38C with humidity at 75-80 percent, the red-earth paths radiate heat from 10am, and the Banyan tree at the Park of Unity is the only patch of useful afternoon shade. The Matrimandir inner chamber holds 25C year-round — the sit itself remains pristine — but everything that gets you there (the 1km walk from the gate, the gardens loop, the queue) is gruelling. April 24 is the third of Auroville's four darshan days; expect Matrimandir, Solar Kitchen, the Pour Tous store and most community workspaces to be residents-only that day. Township guesthouse rates drop 30 percent versus peak. Worth it only if the trip is a single-purpose meditation retreat rather than a community-immersion stay.
