Auli is India's premier ski destination, sitting at 2,500-3,000m in the Garhwal Himalayas. It was historically used by Adi Shankaracharya as a meditation ground and later developed as a ski resort by the Indian government. It offers panoramic views of Nanda Devi, India's second-highest peak.
Heavy winter gear essential from November to March — temperatures drop well below freezing. Casual trekking clothes in summer. No specific cultural dress requirements.
Limited dining options — mostly hotel restaurants and small dhabas. Food is simple but safe. Vegetarian North Indian food dominates. Always drink bottled water. Carry snacks as options are limited.
