Khasi-grown bridges of fig roots, 100-200 years in the making, 20-30 m spans. The double-decker at Nongriat is the celebrity, but Mawlynnong, Padu, Burma, Riwai and Nongthymmai each carry a different geometry.
Reach Nongriat by 3,500 stone steps down (and back up) from Tyrna village. Most other bridges are gentler walks. October-April is the dry-walk window; monsoon access turns the steps into a streambed.
