Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in March
Maharashtra, India
Go March — high sighting probability, peak dry season, the marquee Tadoba window begins.
Peak crowds
March is one of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Summer (March-May) is best for tiger sightings — animals come to water. Park closed July-September monsoon. Weekend permits sell out first.
March at Tadoba is excellent dry-season safari window — 19-35°C, vegetation thinned from January-February post-monsoon thickness, tigers and other wildlife concentrated at remaining waterholes (the reserve's many lakes — Tadoba Lake, Telia Lake, Erai Lake — become congregation points). Maharashtra's oldest tiger reserve (1955, 625 sq km, ~70-80 tigers) at high sighting probability. The Madhuri tigress lineage (Telia sisters area in Kolara) photographable. Reserve hours: morning safari 6.30am-10.30am + afternoon safari 2.30pm-6pm. Tuesday afternoons some zones closed.
The March story
Book core-zone safari ₹3,000-5,000/jeep via Tadoba official online portal 30-45 days ahead. ₹500-1,500/person entry. 6 zones; Moharli most popular, Kolara has Madhuri/Telia sisters area. Stay 2-3 nights at Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge, Tigers Heaven Resort, Svasara Jungle Lodge, Tiger Trails (₹5,000-14,000/night with 2-3 safaris included). Plan 4-6 safaris (morning + afternoon each day). March mornings 19-22°C cool; afternoons 33-35°C warm but in jeep with breeze tolerable. Tiger sighting probability high (60-80% on multi-safari stay). Leopard, wild dog (dhole packs photographable), sambar, chital, gaur, sloth bear all strong. Nagpur 150 km W gateway via NH-44 + state roads (4-5 hr drive); Chandrapur 45 km railhead — many travellers prefer Chandrapur train then 45 km transfer. Photography: March dry-season clarity excellent for waterhole-approach tiger shots. Hotels at peak-shoulder; book Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge 30-45 days ahead. Holi Mar 3 small village observances near Tadoba but reserve operates normally.
