Parvati Valley in February
Himachal Pradesh, India
Icy trails make February risky unless you're experienced in winter hiking
February keeps Parvati Valley in deep winter. Snow may deepen on upper villages. Tosh gets occasional dump days. Temperatures: -4°C to 8°C. Kasol's few open cafes serve as community gathering points. The Parvati River is at its lowest and clearest—you can see the riverbed through turquoise water.
The February story
February Parvati Valley has the intimacy of a place where only the committed remain. The handful of travelers in Kasol—usually long-stayers, digital nomads, or writers—form a tight temporary community. The Magic View Cafe, if open, serves the best breakfast view in the valley: the Parvati gorge below, snow peaks above, and a plate of shakshuka (Israeli influence persists even in winter). The walk from Kasol to Chalal village (1.5 km upstream) is manageable in snow boots and offers hot springs and river views. Tosh in February snow is photographically extraordinary: stone-and-wood Himachali houses buried to their balconies, prayer flags frozen stiff, and silence so complete you hear the Parvati River rushing thousands of feet below. Book any accommodation in advance—options are limited.
