Manali in February
Himachal Pradesh, India
Go in February—it's Manali's peak snow month with fewer tourists than January, reliable skiing at Solang Valley, and 0–8°C days ideal for winter trekking and hot cafes.
February Manali is peak winter with a Valentine's Day tourism spike that fills Mall Road with couples posing in rented snow boots. Temperatures range from -4°C to 7°C. Solang Valley snow is at its deepest — skiing conditions are the best they'll be all year. NH-21 from Chandigarh can have black ice patches between Sundernagar and Kullu, especially early morning. Old Manali remains quiet on weekdays but books out on Valentine's weekend — reserve 2-3 weeks ahead if you're coming mid-month. Fresh snowfall episodes happen every 7-10 days, occasionally blocking roads for 12-24 hours.
The February story
Solang Valley skiing is genuinely good this month — consistent snow cover, HPTDC runs operating, and fewer queues than December. The 1.3 km ropeway to Solang top operates weather-permitting and costs ₹500 return. Gulaba, 20 km toward Rohtang, sometimes opens for snow play when road crews clear NH-21 up to that point — check with local drivers before heading out. Naggar Castle, 20 km south, makes a solid half-day trip: less snow, good views of the valley, and the Roerich Art Gallery inside is worth an hour. The Beas River runs low and partially frozen in stretches — river rafting is completely off the table until April. Mall Road gets slush-covered and messy by afternoon as foot traffic melts morning frost. Budget guesthouses in Vashisht offer hot spring access — the natural sulfur springs run warm year-round and feel incredible after a cold day. Night temperatures can crash to -8°C during cold snaps, so electric blankets matter more than room aesthetics.
