August at North Bay is July with marginally fewer wet days. Rainfall settles to 410-440mm, but the operator picture is unchanged: sea-walk, scuba, glass-bottom are all closed for the season. The Phoenix Bay sailings that exist are inter-island ferry traffic to Havelock and Neil running on rough-sea curtailed timetables - none stop at North Bay. Even on the calm days that occur three or four times in the month, the reef has visibility of 6-10m and operators have sent staff home for the season. The 20-minute crossing is genuinely dangerous in monsoon swell - smaller boats with low gunnels do not handle it. The next reliable open window is November. August is a non-trip.
