Landour in May
Uttarakhand, India
Go in May — escape Delhi heat at 2270m, enjoy quiet before monsoon, but expect morning fog and afternoon clouds limiting views.
Peak crowds
May is one of Landour's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Busy Apr–May and Sep–Oct for spring-autumn escape crowds; monsoon months are quietest.
May brings the heat refugees from Delhi, and Mussoorie below gets properly crowded. But Landour remains a different world—a 20-minute uphill walk from the chaos, but a universe away in energy. Days hit 20-28°C, which for 2270m is genuinely warm. The Landour Bakehouse queue stretches out the door on weekends. Evenings on the Char Dukan bench are warm enough for just a light layer.
The May story
This is peak season with a Landour twist—busy by Landour standards means you'll see 50 people on the Loop walk instead of 5. Still, book accommodation in advance. The canopy walks in surrounding forests are at their best. The Doon Valley below shimmers in heat haze. If you're here on a weekday, you still get quiet Landour. Weekends are when the Mussoorie overflow reaches here. The famous Tipsy Terrace (yes, a real place name) offers sunset views that make you understand why the British chose this ridge. Walk down to Happy Valley for the Tibetan community and their excellent momos. May evenings bring fireflies to the forest edges.
