Kadmat Island in May
Lakshadweep, India
Pre-monsoon swells make diving unpredictable; book weeks ahead if you're committed to underwater work
Peak crowds
May is one of Kadmat Island's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Island diving and water sports safe October–May with calm seas. Monsoon June–September brings rough waves and dive restrictions.
May in Kadmat is the closing-down month. Kadmat Beach Resort typically closes around May 15 ahead of the SW monsoon onset. The Lacadives dive school takes its first closed weeks. SAMUDRAM cruise pauses — MV Kavaratti and MV Lakshadweep Sea both go in for monsoon refit. Until those dates, conditions hold from late April: 28-33C, humidity 80 percent, lagoon calm in the morning with afternoon chop after May 5-7. Dive viz drops from 25m at month-start to 18-20m at closure. The resort's seasonal-closure rate (offered for the last 5 nights pre-shutdown) goes 50-55 percent below January peak. Permit applications for May 15 onward dates get rejected outright. The next reliable Kadmat window is October. Lock the first 10 days or wait. SPORTS huts technically stay open longer but the dive infrastructure isn't there to support a worthwhile trip.
