Peak crowds
February is one of Jaipur's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Literature Festival (Jan) books out every hotel. Summer is 45°C but cheap. Diwali weekend is lovely but packed.
February keeps January's perfect weather (12°C to 24°C) but loses some of the peak-season intensity. The JLF crowds have left, hotel rates dip 10-20%, and the forts are marginally less packed. This is arguably the sweet spot — all the weather benefits of January with fewer people and lower prices. The skies stay clear, the gardens are in bloom, and afternoons on the Nahargarh Fort ramparts overlooking the city are the definition of pleasant. Expect 8,000-12,000 daily visitors at Amber Fort — still busy, but manageable with early starts.
The February story
February's secret weapon is the Elephant Festival, usually held on the full moon day (Holi-adjacent in some years, but often early March — check dates). When it lands in February, it brings decorated elephants, polo matches, and processions through the city. Beyond events, February is when Jaipur's textile markets are at their most active — Johari Bazaar for gems, Bapu Bazaar for textiles, Tripolia Bazaar for lac bangles. The blockprint workshops in Sanganer (16km south) do demonstrations and sell direct: a hand-blocked bedsheet costs 800-2,000 rupees versus 5,000+ in Delhi boutiques. Heritage hotel season is in full swing — properties like Samode Haveli and Dera Mandawa are at their most atmospheric with cool evenings and courtyard dinners. The kite festival energy from Makar Sankranti (mid-January) sometimes spills into early February. Jal Mahal (Water Palace) is best visited at sunset — you can't enter but the photo from the road with Nahargarh behind it is one of Rajasthan's iconic shots. Temperatures are climbing but still nowhere near uncomfortable.
