Chamba in February
Himachal Pradesh, India
February loosens Chamba's winter grip just slightly. Temperatures edge up to 5-15°C, almond blossoms appear along the Ravi, and the Chaugan fills with local cricket matches on sunny afternoons. The medieval character remains undiluted by tourism.
The February story
This is the month to explore Chamba's surroundings. Chamundi Devi temple, a steep 3-km climb above town, rewards with valley panoramas that stretch to snow-covered Pir Panjal. The traditional Chamba chappal (leather sandal) workshops welcome curious visitors — master craftsmen work in the same lanes their grandfathers did. Manimahesh lake trek is closed (that's a monsoon pilgrimage), but the road to Bharmaur (65 km) is open and the drive through the Budhil valley is gorgeous. Hotel rates sit at yearly lows: ₹600-1,500/night. February Chamba rewards the curious over the comfortable.
