Bekal in January is the version Kerala's northernmost-Kasaragod-district promise delivers cleanly. Daytime 22-31C, nights drop to 21C, humidity finally below 70 percent. Book ahead — it is a personalised, host-led beach dinner, not a walk-in restaurant, and seating is limited. Go at sunset for the best of the campfire-and-sea ambience. About a kilometre from Bekal Fort at Pallikere.

Good for an early breakfast (dosa) or a cheap Kerala meals lunch — the lunch thali is well regarded here. Just off the main road near the KSRTC bus stand in Kasaragod town, 16km from Bekal Fort.
