The Aravallis go from brown to the faintest green almost overnight after the first rain. Locals celebrate the first drops with a genuine joy that's contagious. Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace earns its name this month — watching storm clouds roll in from the hilltop is dramatic in a way clear-sky views can't match. Hotel staff have time for you. Restaurants are empty. The city feels like it belongs to you and the residents. It's uncomfortable, yes. But there's an honesty to off-season Udaipur that the polished tourist version lacks.
