Pelling in August
Sikkim, India
Monsoon grinds on. The waterfalls ringing Pelling are thunderous and spectacular — Kanchenjunga Falls, Rimbi Falls — but the trails to reach them are impassable slicks of mud and active leeches. The ridge town feels marooned, wrapped in cloud and the constant sound of running water.
The August story
Waterfalls are at their most powerful but trails are dangerous. Still firmly monsoon — not worth the risk.
