Peak Season
Mathura in November
Uttar Pradesh, India
November is Mathura's golden month for visitors. Cool temperatures (12-28°C), clear skies, Dev Deepawali celebrations with thousands of lamps on the ghats, and comfortable walking weather. The Yamuna runs cleaner in winter. The old city's lanes are navigable without monsoon puddles or summer heat.
The November story
Dev Deepawali, celebrated on the full moon fifteen days after Diwali, is when Mathura's ghats light up with thousands of earthen lamps—a smaller version of Varanasi's famous event but with Krishna-centric devotional energy. The sight of Vishram Ghat with every step holding a flickering diya is extraordinary. Beyond the festival, November Mathura is simply comfortable: walk the ghat circuit from Vishram to Kans Qila (the fort where Krishna killed Kansa), explore the narrow lanes where every corner has a small temple, and eat pedas until your blood sugar protests. The sunrise boat ride on the Yamuna, passing temple-lined ghats in golden light, costs ₹200-300 for a private boat and might be the best value experience in all of UP.
