Marine National Park in June
Gujarat, India
Skip — Marine NP officially closed June 16 to October 15. Wait for November.
June closes Marine NP for the monsoon. The park officially shuts to tourist visits on June 16 for the breeding-season closure (until October 15), the Arabian Sea becomes rough as the southwest monsoon arrives, and Pirotan Island boats halt operations.
The June story
June is the official Marine NP closure month. The park shuts to tourist visits on June 16 for the breeding-season closure that runs until October 15 — Narara Reef walks, Pirotan Island day boats, and most coastal access points within the marine national park boundaries are off-limits to civilians. The southwest monsoon arrives along the Jamnagar coast through the second half of June, bringing rough Arabian Sea swell, heavy rains, and high humidity. Pre-monsoon early-June visits are technically possible until the June 16 closure date but the heat-and-humidity combination makes them unrewarding. Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary (a separate Forest Dept Ramsar site, not part of Marine NP) remains accessible but bird density is at annual lows in June. Lakhota Lake in central Jamnagar stays walkable. Hotel rates are at annual lows. The dramatic monsoon sky from Jamnagar rooftops, the Lakhota Lake palace under rain, and the Khijadiya wet-mangrove shots are the compensating photography possibilities for specialist visitors. But the standard Marine NP experience is unavailable until mid-October at earliest.
