Kushinagar in July
Uttar Pradesh, India
Waterlogged archaeological sites and rampant mosquitoes make monsoon visits impractical
Monsoon turns Kushinagar's archaeological sites into mud fields. The low elevation and poor drainage leave Ramabhar Stupa grounds waterlogged, paths between temples become obstacle courses, and mosquitoes colonise every standing puddle. The Reclining Buddha's temple stays dry inside, but getting there is the problem.
The July story
The combination of waterlogging, mosquitoes, and inaccessible ruins makes this a skip. Contemplation is hard when you're ankle-deep in mud.
