The June story

June is when most pilgrims visit Kedarnath. The trail is well-maintained and fully staffed with tea stalls, medical posts, and rescue teams every few kilometres. The weather is warmest (5-15°C at the temple), the helicopter service most reliable, and the support infrastructure at maximum capacity. The downside: queues. June weekends can see 10,000+ pilgrims arriving daily, creating darshan waits of 4-6 hours. Weekday visits cut wait times by half. The trek itself in June is the most comfortable version: snow-free (usually), wildflowers along the lower trail, and the alpine meadow of Garudchatti providing a rest stop with views. Beyond darshan, the area around the temple tells the 2013 story: the boulder that diverted the flood around the temple (visible behind the structure), the new flood channels, and the rebuilt ghats. For the spiritually committed, spending two nights at the temple — experiencing both evening and morning aarti — is the complete Kedarnath. The descent is 4-6 hours. Helicopter return from the temple helipad saves knees. Late June monsoon arrival increases rain risk — carry full waterproofs.
