Diglipur in June
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India
June at Diglipur is the islands at their most isolated. The southwest monsoon delivers 480-540mm of rain across the month - the heaviest at any inhabited Andaman point. Saddle Peak trail closes by Forest Department order; the path becomes a stream and leeches make it miserable. Ross & Smith dinghy crossings stop entirely as the strait is too rough. The ferry from Port Blair to Aerial Bay cancels on most days; even when it runs, the 8-10 hour open-deck crossing in monsoon is genuinely unpleasant. NH-223 has 4-5 chronic landslide and washout points; entire stretches close for 24-48 hours at a time. Diglipur township operates on backup generators.
