Daulatabad Fort in June
Maharashtra, India
Skip June unless flexibility — first half hot, second half wet slippery; reschedule to Oct-Mar.
June at Daulatabad is the season turning — first 2 weeks plateau-summer (25-38°C, bare-rock climb still dangerous), then the South-West monsoon onset around Jun 15-20 brings 22-30°C relief and the Deccan plateau begins modest greening. Basalt cave-floor stones and 750+ ascent steps become slippery wet, and the Andheri dark spiral tunnel can partially flood in heavy bursts. Tourist numbers minimal. Aurangabad 13 km as base — hotels at mid-rates climbing through the month.
The June story
Time visit to post-Jun-25 if at all — by then the worst pre-monsoon heat has broken and the basalt has been wetted enough to no longer radiate. Conditions: cool 22-28°C, periodic rain bursts, slippery stones. Wear waterproof grippy trek shoes. Strong flashlight for Andheri tunnel (which may have water pooling). ASI ticket ₹25 / ₹300. Plan 3-4 hours but allow buffer for rain pauses. The summit Baradari ascent is viable on a 2-3 dry-day cluster forecast; otherwise restrict to lower fort (Chand Minar, Bharat Mata temple, outer moat). Aurangabad hotels (Vivanta, Welcomhotel, Lemon Tree) at mid-rates. Photography: post-Jun-25 monsoon cloud light on Chand Minar and the conical hill silhouette is atmospheric. Combine with Ellora 17 km W only on dry-day cluster. Avoid heavy-burst evenings. Driving NH-211 between Aurangabad and Daulatabad needs daylight.
