Bhavnagar makes most sense as the Saurashtra east-circuit base: Palitana 50km south (863 Jain temples on Shatrunjaya Hill, 3,800-step cool-weather climb), Velavadar 55km south (Blackbuck NP harrier roost), Lothal 90km north (Indus Valley dock ruins), and Ahmedabad 135km north (UNESCO walled city). 3-4 day base for the entire east-Saurashtra circuit. The Hermes family, Greek royals, and the Dalai Lama have all stayed at Nilambag Palace.
