Good Time
Ayodhya in February
Uttar Pradesh, India
February warms Ayodhya gently. The Saryu river is calm, the ghats are uncrowded, and the temple town settles into its daily rhythm of worship, chai, and commerce. This is the month for travellers who want to experience Ayodhya as a living religious city, not a news headline.
The February story
February is Ayodhya's most liveable month for visitors. The morning walk from Hanuman Garhi through the old town to the Saryu ghats takes you past sweet shops selling peda and laddoo, through narrow lanes where morning prayers echo from every household, and down to the river where families perform puja at sunrise. The Ram Mandir complex is accessible with manageable queues (weekdays are best — 30-60 minute waits vs. 2-3 hours on weekends). The Kanak Bhawan temple, dedicated to Ram and Sita, has some of Ayodhya's finest decorative work. The Tulsi Smarak Bhawan museum preserves manuscripts related to the Ramcharitmanas. February evening aartis at Ram Ki Paidi are atmospheric without summer's oppressive heat. Two nights is the right duration for Ayodhya.
