Good Time
Agra in March
Uttar Pradesh, India
March is Agra's last comfortable month before the heat hammer drops. Early March is ideal — 12-30°C, clear skies, manageable crowds. By late March, afternoon temperatures push past 33°C and the preview of summer begins. The Taj at sunrise is perfect all month: no fog, no haze, reliable pink-to-white light transition. Holi falls in March most years, and while it's spectacular as a cultural experience, it disrupts access — the Taj closes for the festival, and the streets around it get wild with colour and crowds. Fatehpur Sikri starts getting warm by noon. The Yamuna drops further, and from certain angles the Taj's relationship with the river looks different than the monsoon view.
The March story
If you're planning Agra for March, front-load it — first two weeks are golden, last week is noticeably hotter. The 6 AM sunrise Taj slot is pure magic: no fog, low crowds, soft light, and the marble is cool enough to walk barefoot comfortably. By late March, the marble starts absorbing heat and your feet notice by 10 AM. Agra Fort is best visited before 11 AM when the sandstone radiates stored heat. Mehtab Bagh sunsets are gorgeous with clear, dust-free skies. If Holi aligns with your dates, experience it in the old city — it's intense, colourful, and unmistakably Indian — but don't plan your Taj visit for that day. Street food scene is still comfortable outdoors. Book heritage hotels with gardens — evenings are pleasant enough for outdoor dining. Carry sunscreen and a hat from week three onward.
