Sarahan in June
Himachal Pradesh, India
Monsoon clouds roll in by afternoon, so catch morning temple visits before the season shifts
Peak crowds
June is one of Sarahan's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Bhimakali Temple village in Kinnaur. Apple harvest season (Sep-Oct) adds local bustle. Never crowded — off the main tourist circuit.
June pre-monsoon is warm (16-28°C) with building humidity. The Bhimakali Temple and surrounding orchards are at peak green. Early June is still good for bird-watching; later June gets cloudy. The approach road from Shimla (175km, 7 hours) is scenic. Monsoon arrives in the last week. If you're heading deeper into Kinnaur, Sarahan is the natural first night.
The June story
Early June Sarahan is lush and warming. The Bhimakali Temple complex surrounded by full-canopy forest is at its greenest. The approach road from Shimla via the Sutlej gorge is dramatic and clear in early June. If you're heading deeper into Kinnaur (Sangla, Chitkul, Kalpa), Sarahan at 2,165m is the ideal acclimatization stop — high enough to adjust, low enough to be comfortable. The temple's evening aarti in the lingering summer light is beautiful. After mid-June, clouds build and monsoon approaches. The last two weeks of June are a gamble — good weather gives you everything, but the monsoon can arrive early and suddenly. Book cancellable accommodation.
