Raigad was Shivaji Maharaj's capital โ where he was crowned Chhatrapati in 1674, founding the Maratha Empire. The fort sits on a 820m hill with near-vertical cliffs on all sides. A ropeway takes you up (or 1,400+ steps). Inside: the royal court (Rajya Sabha), queen's chambers, market street, granaries, and Shivaji's samadhi. UNESCO inscribed it in 2024 as part of Maratha Military Landscapes.
