Pali (Raigad) in August
Maharashtra, India
August continues the heavy southwest monsoon over Raigad. Rainfall holds at 800-1000mm for the month — still among the highest single-month totals on the central Konkan. Sankashti Chaturthi falls Tue Aug 4 2026 (Angarki Chaturthi — Tuesday-aligned auspicious fast day) and brings a small dedicated pilgrim flow despite weather, with palki ceremonies at dawn and full abhishek through the day. Beyond Aug 4 the month is quiet. The same Raigad access problems persist throughout August: Konkan ferry routes still off, intermittent ghat closures on the Khopoli-Pali state highway, and an unreliable last-mile drive from either Khopoli or Mumbai sides. Hardcore Ashtavinayak devotees do undertake the yatra in monsoon as a tapas (austerity) commitment — Pali's 1810 Phadnis stonework against the green Raigad hills looks remarkable when wet — but for general visitors the logistics are forbidding. Wait for September's festival peak or October's post-monsoon calm.
