Lothal in October
Gujarat, India
Go — post-monsoon dry dockyard and pre-peak shoulder window.
Peak crowds
October is one of Lothal's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Busiest Oct–Feb for history tourism in cool season; May–Jun heat suppresses day-trip crowds.
October at Lothal is the post-monsoon workable window — 22-34°C, the brick-and-packed-earth dockyard fully dry, the ASI museum at year-best comfort, and the Bhal region grasslands at their post-monsoon green. The day-trip from Ahmedabad becomes reliable again.
The October story
Plan one day. Drive from Ahmedabad at 7am, arrive Lothal by 8.30am for the dockyard moat walk in clear morning light. The 37m x 22m tidal basin — read the ASI plaques on Harappan marine engineering. ASI Museum (closed Fridays) for the bronze hippo seal, bead-making kiln. Lunch at Hazur Palace heritage dining 1.5km OR Bagodara dhabas 17km. Return to Ahmedabad or continue to Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary (75km north — migratory birds starting to arrive). October is the shoulder-window where the Lothal visit costs less than Nov-Feb peak hotels but offers near-peak weather.
