The May story
The monastery comes fully alive—all resident monks are present, morning and evening prayers run on full schedule, and the butter sculpture room is stocked. The famous Lamayuru trek to Alchi (3-4 days) opens up, crossing the Konze La and Stakse La passes. This is arguably Ladakh's finest multi-day walk, and May means you'll share the trail with very few people. The road trip from Leh is spectacular—Magnetic Hill, the Indus-Zanskar confluence, and the dramatic descent into the moonscape valley. Guesthouses are all open, meals include fresh vegetables again, and you can camp on the monastery grounds with permission.
