Devprayag in February
Uttarakhand, India
February crowds thin out, but afternoon cloud cover obscures the river confluence photography you came for
February warms Devprayag marginally to 6-18°C. The rivers run at their lowest and clearest, the sangam colour contrast is at maximum, and the town's handful of chai shops and dharamshalas operate in quiet service mode. Maha Shivaratri (if in February) adds devotional energy.
The February story
If Shivaratri falls in February, the ghats light up with oil lamps and the sangam receives midnight offerings. The pre-dawn aarti, with the river mist rising and lamps reflecting off the confluence, is one of the most intimate religious experiences in Uttarakhand. Without the festival, February Devprayag is simply a small town on a large river — the kind of place where the chai shop owner remembers your order from yesterday because there are maybe four visitors total. The drive from Rishikesh (70 km) follows the Ganga upstream, and the river changes character every few kilometres. Rooms: ₹400-1,200/night.
