Mallinath Cattle Fair, Tilwara — Western Rajasthan's biggest livestock gathering.
Pushkar gets the camel-fair tourist traffic; Tilwara is run by and for breeders — no English signage, no foreign-tourist circuit, no Instagram economy.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Held every Chaitra Budi Ekadashi to Chaitra Sudi Ekadashi (March-April) at Tilwara village in Barmer district, this is the largest cattle fair in western Rajasthan and the oldest animal fair in the state — origin traced to 14th-century folk hero Rawal Mallinath, eldest son of Rao Salkhaji of Mehwanagar. Buyers come from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh for the Malani horse breed (named after this region), Tharparker cows, Kankrej cattle, and racing camels. The bullock and camel races are the centrepiece; prize-winning animals wear white badges and trade at multiples of normal price.
