Almora in May
Uttarakhand, India
Go in May — the 4/5 score reflects mild 20-27°C weather ideal for walking the town's spiritual sites and heritage lanes while lowland India swelters.
Peak crowds
May is one of Almora's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Spring and autumn peak with clear views and mild weather; monsoon June–August suppresses traffic.
May warms Almora to a comfortable 20-27°C while the plains below hit 45°C. This is when Indian families discover hill stations, so expect more visitors. But Almora isn't Nainital or Mussoorie — the crowds are manageable and the town retains its character.
The May story
May is Almora's busiest month, but "busy" here means the main bazaar has actual foot traffic and Bright End Corner has other visitors at sunrise. Compare that to Nainital's May gridlock and you'll appreciate the difference. The Himalayan views are less consistent — heat haze builds by late morning — but dawn panoramas remain spectacular. Kasar Devi temple, the Deer Park, and the Govind Ballabh Pant Museum are all operating at full capacity. The real May advantage: Almora is a superb base for onward travel to Munsiyari, Pindari Glacier, or Jageshwar (an extraordinary complex of 124 temples in a deodar forest, 35km away). Use Almora as your hub, not just a destination. The food — Kumaoni thali, bal mithai, singori — remains excellent.
