Khanderi Lighthouse + Kanhoji Angre Fort.
Khanderi requires a 45-min boat from Thal jetty (no scheduled ferry; private boat ₹2000-3000 per group, weather-dependent). Most Alibaug day-trippers stop at Kihim or Akshi or do the Kolaba Fort low-tide walk. The island sits 5km offshore + falls under Indian Navy jurisdiction (Eastern Naval Command), so most travellers don't even know it's visitable.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
A sea-fort built by Shivaji in 1679 to flank the Siddi Janjira fort + a British-era lighthouse added in 1867 (operational under DGLL — Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships). The island was renamed Kanhoji Angre Island in 1998 in honour of the Maratha Admiral. Boat charter from Thal preferred Apr-May (calmest seas); avoid Jun-Sep monsoon. ₹50 entry to fort; lighthouse interior visit requires DGLL prior permission. State Protected Monument tag granted 2023.
