Fair
Ajmer in September
Rajasthan, India
September is monsoon's farewell — sporadic rain, dropping humidity, and green everywhere. The Dargah is comfortable to visit again. Ana Sagar Lake is at its fullest. This is the overlooked month when Ajmer is genuinely beautiful and nobody thinks to come.
The September story
September is Ajmer's hidden gem month. The monsoon has done its work — everything is green, the lake is full, the air is washed clean — but the rain is tapering off. You get monsoon's beauty without monsoon's inconvenience. The Dargah is serene. The Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra mosque, with its extraordinary screen of arches, is comfortable to explore for the first time since March. Taragarh Fort rewards climbers with 360-degree views of green Aravallis. September travellers in Rajasthan tend to head for Udaipur or Jaisalmer — almost nobody thinks of Ajmer, which means you get authentic local life without performance. Pushkar's ghats in September evening light are unforgettable.
