Satkosia Gorge Nature Trail

Satkosia

Satkosia Gorge Nature Trail is an easy single-day, 6 km trek, topping out at 200 m. The route takes in Gorge rim panoramas; Gharial spotting points; Mahanadi River views; Conservation briefing. Best months: January–March and October–December. Watch points: Stay on trail — cliff edges; no solo trekking — guide required; carry water. Fitness level: low, suitable for children with adult supervision. This is Odisha's only gorge habitat where Indian gharials breed; the guided format doubles as a conservation lesson rather than a standard nature walk. Pair it with a boat trip on the Mahanadi to see the same wildlife from water level. The dry season (October–March) is essential — monsoon swells make the river unpredictable and spotting impossible.
