David Scott Trail is an easy single-day, 16 km trek, topping out at 1,800 m. The route takes in Colonial-era horse trail with historical significance; Pine and oak forests with moss-covered canopy; Crystal-clear streams with natural swimming spots; Traditional Khasi villages along the route. Best months: January–March and October–December. Watch points: Trail can be muddy and slippery in monsoon (Jun-Sep); limited shade in open sections — carry sun protection; no shops or eateries on trail — carry all food and water. Fitness level: beginner, suitable for children with adult supervision. Nearest hospital: Shillong Civil Hospital — 25km from Mawphlang, 1 hour by road. Network coverage: Airtel and Jio work at Mawphlang. Patchy coverage mid-trail. Signal returns at Lad Mawphlang.
