April is Kasauli's sweet spot — 14-24°C under clear skies. The pine and deodar forests are dense and fragrant. The Gilbert Trail (7km through forest) is perfect. Christ Church services on Sunday attract a mix of military families and tourists. The Kasauli Club — members only, but hotels can sometimes arrange guest passes — is a colonial time capsule. Weekend visitors from Chandigarh and Delhi increase.

Outdoor seating is the entire reason to come — about 25-30 covers with the windy valley view. Service is HPTDC-government-pace; order breakfast and stay for the morning instead of squeezing it into a quick stop.

Non-residents can dine; the bar is the unbilled draw. Ask to be seated in the original wing rather than the newer extension — the fireplaces still work in winter.

Parking is the catch — barely four spots on the road. Come for the 5pm-6pm window for sunset, not lunch; the food is good but the deck is the real product.
Highest point in Kasauli at 6,130 ft with a temple and views stretching to Chandigarh plains. Army area.
