Roopkund is a remote glacial lake at 5,029m, famous as the Skeleton Lake — hundreds of ancient human skeletal remains are visible in and around the lake when snow melts. DNA testing revealed some remains are 9th-century travelers, possibly killed by a sudden hailstorm. It is one of the world's most mysterious archaeological sites and a challenging high-altitude trek.

High-altitude trekking gear essential — thermal layers, waterproof jacket, good trekking boots, gaiters. This is not a casual visit. No cultural dress codes as this is pure wilderness.

No permanent food establishments. Trek operators provide meals at campsites. Basic but sufficient — dal, rice, chapati, tea. Carry energy bars, dry fruits, and electrolytes. Water purification tablets essential as you may need to use stream water.
