Chandigarh sits at the gateway between plains and Himalayas — within 6 hours, you can reach Shimla, Manali (just), Kasol, the Renuka Lake belt or the Pinjore-Kalka stretch. The list excludes anything that pushes a full 7+ hour drive.
Most picks work as 2-night trips (Friday evening to Sunday late afternoon). Avoid mid-summer Manali traffic; the standard Chandigarh-Manali route can stretch to 10+ hours on long weekends. Pinjore and Kasauli are the no-fail closer alternatives.
