Amritsar Weekend
Golden Temple + Wagah Border ceremony. Two of the most powerful experiences in India, both in one city. The langar (free community kitchen) at Golden Temple feeds 50,000+ people daily — go see it, eat there, be humbled.
Highlights
Logistics
Fly Delhi-Amritsar (1hr, cheap flights) or Shatabdi Express (6hrs). From Chandigarh it's a 4hr drive. Wagah ceremony is at 4:30PM (winter) or 5:30PM (summer) — reach 2hrs early for a good seat.
Day by Day
Morning flight or early train. Arrive by noon. Afternoon: Jallianwala Bagh (sobering, important). Walk to Golden Temple. First darshan. Evening: Golden Temple lit up at night — this is the moment. Eat langar (free, no questions asked, everyone sits equal).
Early morning: Golden Temple sunrise (4AM palki sahib ceremony if you're dedicated). Partition Museum (excellent, allow 2hrs). Afternoon: drive to Wagah Border. The flag-lowering ceremony is part military parade, part cricket match energy. Loud, patriotic, unforgettable. Return to Amritsar. Street food: Kesar da Dhaba, Beera Chicken, Amritsari kulcha.
Morning: one more Golden Temple visit (it pulls you back). Gobindgarh Fort if time. Flight or train back to Delhi.
