June divides at the monsoon line. Early June retains May's pleasant conditions with increasing humidity. By June 15-20, the monsoon arrives and Gangtok becomes one of India's wettest cities — it receives over 3000mm annually, mostly June-September. The clouds descend. Kanchenjunga disappears. Landslides on the Siliguri-Gangtok highway become routine. Tourist numbers drop sharply.
