March heats Barmer past 30°C and climbing. The Barmer Thar Festival (dates vary) sometimes falls in March — a local alternative to Jaisalmer's more famous desert festival, with folk music, dance, and camel events that feel less staged because fewer tourists attend.
Live in Barmer
Not as famous as Jaisalmer camps but that is the advantage — no tourist crowds, same desert. Camel rides, folk music evenings, and a bonfire under stars. Run by a local Rajput family, not a chain.
A Rajput family opens their sandstone haveli to guests. Sleeping on the rooftop under a billion stars with desert wind is the draw. Home-cooked Marwari food is heavy, spicy, and unforgettable. The family's hospitality makes you want to stay a week.

Barmer's restaurant scene is thin; this is the most reliable sit-down for travellers stopping over en route to Jaisalmer or the border.

Order the cold coffee and a margherita pizza — the staples are far more consistent than the experimental Mexican plates. Open till 11 PM, later than most Barmer eateries that shut by 10.
Famous for hand-block printing, mirror work embroidery, and wooden crafts of the Thar Desert.
