March is the turning point. Winter migrants begin departing, but breeding residents intensify — painted storks, cormorants, and herons are nesting. The sarus cranes pair off. Temperatures climb past 30°C but mornings are still comfortable for cycling the park's trails.
Live in Bharatpur
A restored 19th-century garden retreat with peacocks in the courtyard. The rooms have period furniture and modern bathrooms. Best base for Keoladeo — they arrange dawn birding guides and pack breakfast. The pool after a dusty bird walk is heaven.
Built by birders for birders. The common room has spotting scopes, bird checklists, and a whiteboard of daily sightings. Rooms are basic but clean. The real value is the birding community that gathers here every evening to compare notes.
SignaturePyaaz Kachori with kadhi
Morning batch (7-8:30am) is for plain dal kachori with aloo sabzi; evening batch (4:30-6pm) is for the pyaaz kachori-with-kadhi combo. Ask for "kurkuri" if you want the crust extra-crisp before the kadhi pour. Pair with their jalebi (fried in desi ghee, not oil — they're open about the difference). Cash only.

Non-residents need to call ahead — the property runs as a private hideaway and walk-in lunches aren't accepted on most days.
