Self-cycling through the wetland at dawn. Mist rising, egrets taking flight, Sarus cranes calling. The rickshaw-wallahs sleep in. You own the park.
Walk the perimeter to the Jawahar Burj (built 1765 by Maharaja Jawahar Singh to commemorate his Delhi victory over the Mughals) and Fateh Burj. The Kishori Mahal inside has fading Jat-era murals. Best between Oct-Feb when the moat refills after monsoon and you can see why a 2.8km-perimeter mud fort survived a colonial army. Entry is free; the on-site museum (₹50) houses Mughal-era sculpture recovered from local sites.
Hire a licensed rickshaw (yellow board with name + license number) inside the gate for a 3-4hr morning circuit — they typically charge ₹150-200/hour all-inclusive and you'll see 80-100 species in winter (vs 30-40 walking alone). Tip ₹100-200 extra if they show you the Indian rock python sun-basking spot. Avoid touts at the outer gate offering 'package' deals; the licensed pullers wait inside.

Heritage haveli built circa 1699 by Mughal-era nobility, now run by Amritara as a 11-room boutique stay — in-house indoor restaurant plus a poolside outdoor venue called Peharsi Andaaz. Sits 25 km from Bharatpur city in Peharsar village.
Tip: Non-residents need to call ahead — the property runs as a private hideaway and walk-in lunches aren't accepted on most days.

Bharatpur's most-reviewed kachori counter (4.2 / 687 reviews on Restaurant Guru), Deviram is the right kachori stop within walking distance of Lohagarh's Anah Gate. The signature is kadhi-kachori — a hot pyaaz kachori broken into a bowl of besan-yoghurt kadhi, which softens the crust without dissolving it. Frying starts around 7am for breakfast and again at 4pm for evening; both batches sell out within 90 minutes.
Tip: Morning batch (7-8:30am) is for plain dal kachori with aloo sabzi; evening batch (4:30-6pm) is for the pyaaz kachori-with-kadhi combo. Ask for "kurkuri" if you want the crust extra-crisp before the kadhi pour. Pair with their jalebi (fried in desi ghee, not oil — they're open about the difference). Cash only.

Garden-set restaurant inside The Bagh heritage resort — orchard surroundings, multi-cuisine spread, and the closest higher-end dining stop to Keoladeo. One of the few sit-down options in Bharatpur with proper hotel-trained kitchen output.
Tip: If you're staying inside Keoladeo at the lodge, Gulmohar is a 15-minute auto ride out — book a table at sunset and they'll seat you in the orchard, not the indoor hall.
Signature: lodge buffet breakfast
ITDC-run lodge inside Keoladeo National Park, 1.5 km from the main gate — the only sit-down restaurant actually inside the wetland. Useful when birders want a hot meal without leaving the park.
Tip: The veranda tables face the wetland — finish breakfast there and you can spot painted storks and pelicans without leaving your chair.
Signature: Rajasthani thali with cultural show
Rajasthani village-theme resort-restaurant on Agra Road — fixed-price entry includes welcome drink, snacks, full thali dinner, plus Kalbeliya, Ghoomar, puppet show, magic and camel/horse rides. Built for the Bharatpur tour-bus circuit.
Tip: Adult entry around ₹450 covers the dance-and-dinner package; à la carte isn't really the play here. Time the visit to start at 7 pm to catch the full show sequence.

Named after the famous ornithologist, and he lives up to it. Has been guiding at Keoladeo Ghana National Park for 20 years. Can identify 200+ species by call alone. His cycle-rickshaw birding tours at dawn are worth every rupee.
Self-taught historian of Deeg Palace water gardens. His explanation of the 18th-century hydraulic system — fountains powered by bullock-driven pumps — makes you appreciate Jat engineering genius. Most tourists miss Deeg entirely, which is a shame.
