Cultural Context
Tosamaidan is a massive alpine meadow at 3,000m that was used as an Indian Army artillery firing range for decades, keeping it off-limits to civilians. After the army vacated in 2014 following local protests, this 100 sq km grassland opened to visitors — revealing one of the largest and most pristine meadows in Asia. It is slowly being developed for responsible tourism.
