Thekkady in April is the peak wildlife-concentration window with the heat-compromise. Daytime 23-32C at the 900m elevation, humidity past 75 percent, Mullaperiyar Lake at year-low water levels. The 925 sq km Periyar Tiger Reserve compresses its wildlife to remaining shoreline — gaur in 10-15 individual sightings per dawn cruise, wild elephant in 4-6 sightings, sambar everywhere, and the 35-40 estimated tigers in the reserve at their year-best (still rare, but the second sighting of the year statistically falls here per Forest Department records).
