Good Time
Rishikesh in April
Uttarakhand, India
April Rishikesh is warm and getting warmer. Temperatures push to 18-35°C — comfortable mornings, hot afternoons, the first taste of what's coming in May. The Ganges is still raftable and the 16km stretch runs daily, but the water is warmer now — you might actually enjoy getting splashed. The post-festival yoga scene settles into its regular rhythm: smaller classes, committed students, less spectacle. The cafes stay busy with the European spring-break crowd overlapping with Indian weekend visitors. Beatles Ashram is at peak visitor numbers — 150-200 daily. Bungee jumping queues grow as the weather warms.
The April story
April is the last comfortable outdoor month before Rishikesh turns into a furnace. The morning window (6-10 AM) is the best time for everything: rafting when the light is soft and the water surface is glass-calm between rapids, yoga on the ghat before the heat, Neelkanth Temple trek before the sun gets overhead. Triveni Ghat aarti at 6 PM is pleasant — the river breeze keeps the temperature bearable even as the day's heat lingers. Rafting prices are standard: ₹1,200-1,800 for the full stretch. The Ganges beach camps at Shivpuri are in full operation — overnight camping with bonfires, stars, and the sound of rapids is April's signature experience. Ram Jhula at sunset with the temple lights reflecting off the river is as photogenic as Rishikesh gets. The cafe rooftops in Tapovan are perfect for evening hang-outs — warm enough for just a T-shirt, river visible below, kirtan from Parmarth carrying on the air. Room rates are mid-range: ₹1,000-2,000. AIIMS is there. The downside is creeping: by April 25th, afternoon temperatures hit 35°C and the preview of May-June hell arrives. Early April beats late April significantly.
