Rangat in May
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India
Pre-monsoon downpours make trails treacherous and visibility poor
Rangat in early May is April with a clearer deadline. The first 18 days run as expected - 5:30am ATR convoy on schedule, Amkunj Beach mangrove boardwalk still dry-foot, Dhani Nallah accessible. Daytime 28-32C, humidity 82 percent, rainfall 110-140mm in evening squalls. From around May 20, the southwest monsoon advance arrives. The Andaman Trunk Road has 2-3 chronic landslide stretches in the Jarawa Reserve section that close for 6-12 hours at a time. The Amkunj boardwalk gets slippery underfoot when squalls move through. Hotels drop to 700-1,000 rupees per night. The next clean Rangat month is November.
