The dam — Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, the world's TALLEST MASONRY DAM at 124m (408ft), built 1955-1969 by Nehru and Govind Ballabh Pant on the Krishna river across the Andhra-Telangana border — at full visitor access. The structure runs 1,550m across with 26 crest gates, the reservoir backwater stretches 285km upstream into the Nallamala hills. Nagarjunakonda Island — the Buddhist heritage site (Acharya Nagarjuna 2nd-c CE Madhyamika philosopher gave his name to the place; the original site was submerged when the dam reservoir filled in 1960 and ASI reconstructed the major stupas, viharas and the Iksvaku-dynasty heritage on the Anupu hill island museum, boat-only access via ferry from Vijayapuri South ghat) — at full ferry schedule, departures 9:30am and 1:30pm, ₹300-500 boat return + ₹15 museum entry, 10am-5pm except Friday. Ethipothala Falls (22m, 11km downstream of the dam) at year-peak walkability. Haritha Hill Colony APTDC ₹2-3.5k and the Project Tiger forest guest houses ₹1,200-2,500.
