Forest department excavations on this site uncovered Hindu sculptures dated 7th-11th century CE - Pratihara period, the same dynasty that built Khajuraho's earliest shrines. The current modest Krishna temple sits on those plinths. Worth fifteen minutes for the dating context the lake itself doesn't carry - and for the cleanest reading angle on the lake's full sweep.
Local oral history puts the fort at roughly 2,000 years old, attributed to a Queen Morni for whom the hills are named - take the dating with caution, but the structure itself is genuinely defensive and the small museum inside lays out the Shivaliks ecology, the red junglefowl and kalij pheasant breeding work, and the regional fort network linking Garhi Kotaha (27 km south) and Masoompur. Best ridge view of the Tikkar Taal twin lakes is from the rampart wall behind the museum.

Boutique eco-stay at Bhoj Tipra ridge with an in-house cafe open 8am–10pm year-round — 4.4 / 262 on Justdial, 4.5 on EazyDiner, active Tripadvisor presence since 2023. Useful as a non-resort sit-down when Mountain Quail's dining hall is at capacity on weekends.
Tip: Pizza and pasta are reliable; skip the Indian mains. Cafe is open to day-trippers but priority goes to overnight guests during peak monsoon — ring ahead if visiting only for food.
Signature: Maggi with masala chai
The village-side cafe option — short menu of parathas, Maggi, omelettes for trekkers heading to Morni Fort. No frills, opens by 7am.
Tip: Carry cash — UPI signal drops in Morni village past 4pm and card machines often don't connect.

Haryana Tourism's hilltop restaurant at Mountain Quail Resort — the only proper sit-down in Morni with a verified address and a valley view. Run by HTC; menu is short but the kitchen is reliable.
Tip: The terrace seating is unshaded and brutal in May-June afternoons; book the indoor window table or come at 5pm when the light hits the Tikkar Taal lakes below.
