Margao in October
Goa, India
Go in October — post-monsoon weather is dry and warm, the market is lively, and Portuguese architecture rewards slow exploration without peak-season crowds.
October in Margao is when the South Goa city returns to full heritage-walk tempo. Rainfall 100-150mm — mostly first 10 days — and daytime 24-31C with humidity falling to 75 percent. The Latin Quarter heritage circuit (Sat Burnzam Ghor on Wed/Sat appointment, Confraria Walk via Praca Dr Jorge Barreto, Holy Spirit Church 1675) becomes fully workable by October 12-15. The Margao Municipal Market is back at full vegetable-and-fish supply post-monsoon trawler ban (lifted September 1 for Goa). Chef Fernando's Nostalgia and Longuinhos run full evening service. Konkan Railway hub is at full operational tempo as always. Hotel rates: Hotel Mandovi at ₹4,500-5,500 (versus ₹6,500-7,500 December), Zion Goa at ₹3,500-4,500, Nilaya Hermitage at ₹6,500-8,000, Taj Exotica Benaulim 9km away at ₹26,000. Diwali long weekend (variable, usually mid-October to early November) brings a 3-5 day domestic bump and a 25 percent rate climb. The first three weeks of October are the smart traveller's window.
